DiveStay 9P is an IDEST certified test centre for steel, aluminium and composite cylinders. Based in Eyemouth we are suitably local to provide IDEST cylinder testing for South East Scotland and The Scottish Borders as well as Northumberland and The North East of England
We offer several testing options
- By pre-arrangement, testing can be completed while divers are staying with us for the weekend or on one of our week long packages.
- Diving cylinders can be left with us for testing and are stored until you come back to dive
- We have vehicles regularly running up from around West Yorkshire. We are able to pre-arrange pick up & drop off from several places between Leeds and Eyemouth.
Our team of engineers are qualified to provide visual and hydrostatic tests, as well as O2 cleaning. Valve strip down, service and rebuild is included as part of our cylinder testing, so you can be sure that your cylinder is totally safe to use. Failed valves are replaced and fitted with a new valve. Failed valves and cylinders are not returned (it’s the law!) After successful testing, cylinders will be returned full of clean air or Nitrox and ready for use.
IDEST centres work to set standards. IDEST ensures that test stations and their technicians adhere to CP11:2011 Code of Practice, thus ensuring high-quality service and testing, thereby keeping divers – and the people who fill their cylinders – safe.
IDEST centres are inspected tri-annually and there is an appeals process for customers who feel that their equipment has not been correctly serviced.
The DiveStay Difference
Your gear is your life support system when you go diving. We regularly service, test and certify our own stock of cylinders. We can also do the same for you. The DiveStay difference is you’ll get great value for money and will know your equipment is in safe hands.

Inspection / Testing
As an approved IDEST Test centre –DiveStay IDEST 9P, Inspection and testing is carried out in accordance with EN1968 for steel cylinders and EN1808 for aluminium cylinders
Hydrostatic Testing includes visual and Valve Service (Every 5 Years)
Dive cylinders are required to be hydrostatically tested every five years unless something happens to the tank that would warrant testing sooner. This would be something that can affect the structural integrity of the tank, such as being dropped from a height, exposure to heat, or painting with inappropriate substances.
Visual Inspection includes Valve Service (Every 2½ Years)
The cylinder is checked inside and out for signs of corrosion and damage. Threads and seals are assessed for damage. We also test, clean and service the valve.
The cylinder is stamped with our unique IDEST centre stamp, including whether it has been visually or hydro-statically serviced. It is stickered to show when it is next due for a service.
O2 Clean and Service includes Valve Service (Every 15 Months)
If the cylinder is to be used for nitrogen/enriched air, it is essential for the safety of the cylinder user and the person filling the cylinder, that the cylinder should be O2 cleaned and filled only with clean air. Cylinder and valve are stripped and cleaned using specialist cleaning fluid. O2 specific seals and O-rings are fitted.

All cylinders are tested on-site in our certified workshop to IDEST Standards.
A cylinder requires a visual test 2½ years from the date of manufacture (stamped on cylinder).
Tested cylinders are labelled with blue neck quadrant with the appropriate test date.
From this date the cylinder then requires a full hydrostatic test after further 2½ years.
This testing process is repeated for the life of the cylinder

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does testing take?
Our testing turnaround is normally about 10-15 days but this can vary. By Pre-arrangement, for guests staying with us, testing can be done during your stay.
Can you do it while I wait?
It’s not possible to test while-you-wait, but we can normally lend you one of our cylinders if you leave your cylinder for test. Alternatively you can hire a cylinder to keep you diving today. You can leave cylinders with us after your diving, and we’ll store them until you’re back next time.
Can I watch the testing?
It’s not possible for you to be in the workshop during testing, but we’ll keep you updated with photos and progress online. You can then make informed decisions and choices about the process.
Can you Test and/or O2 clean my Twinset?
Yes and Yes
What if it fails the cylinder test?
The law now requires the testing station to destroy any cylinders that fail the testing
What if the valve fails the test?
We’ll fit you a new valve.
Will you test my paintball gun cylinder?
Yes, but our policy is that we test all cylinders as a diving cylinder even if fitted with a surface use valve.
Are there any hidden costs?
No, but… we fit the best quality standard parts. Any specialist or brand specific parts that are needed will be charged at cost.
